Playmakers leaving New York

Kevin Boss, Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, football

That way to California

Kevin Boss has signed a 4 year $16 million deal with the Oakland Raiders and Jerricho Cotchery has been released today by the New York Jets. Boss is well known as an instrumental part of the 2007 World Champion Giants team as a fleet footed tight end and sure handed receiver. He is easily remembered for his huge 45 yard reception during Super Bowl 42. As the Giants transition into a high octane offense with fleetfooted stars like Hakeem Nicks and Ahmad Brandshaw, Boss was a great compliment to their abilities. I have to agree with the “Gints” though, he was not worth $4 million per year. Travis Beckum┬áhas talent, but I’d like to see him bulk up closer to 250 so he can be a dominating blocker like his predecessors, Mark Bavaro and Zeke Mowat. Cotchery is a different story than Boss.A popular Jet and very capable wide receiver, he was not happy being the 3rd wide out on a team where there may not be enough balls to go around. Now that Santonio Holmes is signed long term, Plaxico Burress has a lot to prove, and there’s talk of Derrick Mason coming to town, Cotchery clearly was not going to get the playing time he wanted. He reluctantly asked for and was granted his release so that he could find a team early in training camp that could use his service. Jerricho was due to make $1.8 million in the last year of his contract. Cotchery is well known for his epic catch in overtime last year where he tore his groin and helped send the Jets to a victory over the Cleveland Browns. Good luck on your next team, J.C.. You’re all class.
